Exploring the Content Query Web Part in depth: Learn how to use the Content Query Web Part successfully.
Date: 26th January 2012 - 12 noon EST
Presenter: Christina Wheeler MCTS

In MOSS 2007, the Content Query Web Part (CQWP) was a very powerful
control used for aggregating content from a particular list, site, or
site collection. However, even though this web part was pretty awesome
it still had some serious drawbacks.
In SharePoint 2010, the CQWP has
been greatly improved with a facelift, improved features, and cool new
features. New features include the introduction of slots which simplify
working with Item Styles and the Content to Content concept which
provides functionality such as related content.
Some improvements to the
CQWP include dynamic filters and the CommonViewFields. The CQWP in
SharePoint 2010 has also improved the query performance over large
document libraries and lists.
This session will demonstrate the new features of the CQWP.

Everything you need to know about managing sharepoint permissions on a hybrid environment
Date: 24th October 2011 - 12 noon EST
Presenter: Brett Lonsdale and Dave Coleman

In this webcast, Brett Lonsdale,
cofounder of Lightning Tools and MVP Dave Coleman will guide attendees
through the secrets involved when managing on-premises and Office 365
SharePoint permissions. You will learn how to successfully protect your
content on both locations, and what you need to be prepared for.
SharePoint permissions can be
centrally managed by SharePoint Farm Administrators but are also often
managed by Site Collection Administrators or even Site Administrators.
No matter who is managing your permissions in your SharePoint
environment, they will be challenged when trying to find out precisely
who has permissions to the content and how they were assigned it.
Learn how combining both MetaVis Security Manager and Lightning Tools
DeliverPoint, you help you view reports and manage permissions more
accurately than with SharePoint Out-of-the-Box.
DeliverPoint and Security Manager
complement each other as DeliverPoint is available within the SharePoint
user interface for on-premise SharePoint environments providing
accessibility to all administrators whereas Security Manager is a rich
Windows Application that can manage permissions for any SharePoint
environment including those hosted with Office 365.
Brett Lonsdale will demonstrate how
DeliverPoint can be used by Site Collection Administrators and Site
Administrators directly in the SharePoint user interface to report on
and manage SharePoint permissions. Unique permissions, compare site
permissions, discover permissions and Dead account reports are just some
of the features that Brett will demonstrate.
Dave Coleman will show the use of
MetaVis Security Manager managing permissions in an Office 365
environment and will also demonstrate how to check permission
inheritance and more importantly how a user permission is applied and
more.

SharePoint 2010 Authentication Overview
Date: 28th July 2011 - 12 noon EST
Presenter: Todd Klindt (SharePoint MVP)
Now that you have your SharePoint farm expertly installed and configured it’s time to loose your users on it. Before you do that, you should have a well thought out authentication strategy designed. SharePoint 2010 has many great authentication options, it’s very flexible. Unfortunately when it comes to software, flexible is often another way of saying “complicated.” In this webcast Todd will cover the basics to authentication and how SharePoint figures into authentication and authorization.
After we get the basics down we’ll cover how you can take advantage of SharePoint 2010’s flexibility by authenticating against user stores that aren’t Active Directory. We’ll walk through settings up Forms Based Authentication (FBA) and talk about how it improves upon the FBA support that SharePoint 2007 had. We will also cover some troubleshooting techniques in case FBA doesn’t want to cooperate with you. After mastering FBA we will take a turn and take a look at Claims authentication. We’ll explain what Claims is and why it’s a good thing for SharePoint 2010.
All PowerPoint and no demos makes for a dull webcast, so there will be a lot of demos. They will help home the information in the slides, and give Todd an opportunity to embarrass himself in front of a large group of people. Should be a lot of fun.

that have been improved or changed from MOSS 2007.
Best practices and use
