Permission Reporting
SharePoint 2010 has made an improvement in this area out of the box allowing for permissions to be
checked at Site, List and List Item level. That is certainly useful for Site or Site collection owners.
However, it will be time consuming to visit every List Item, List and Site throughout your farm should
you want to check what permissions a user has within your SharePoint Environment. DeliverPoint 2010
allows you to report exactly what permissions a user or domain group may have anywhere within the farm
even down to the list item. Below is a screen shot of a Unique Permissions report.

Copy Permissions
Site Collection administrators are not necessarily ‘SharePoint Administrators’. They often perform other
daily roles and would not have the time to grant permissions to Sites, Lists, and List items for new
starters within an organization. However, if a new starter called Nick will be performing the same role
within a Farm, Web Application, Site Collection etc. DeliverPoint will allow you to simply copy the
permissions from Nick to Brett. The below screenshot shows permissions about to be copied from Brett to
Nick throughout the Farm.

DeliverPoint also allows you to transfer permissions. This operation would be useful if Brett was
replacing Nick’s role within a company.
Delete Permissions
Using SharePoint 2010 you can make sure that users are removed from SharePoint groups. This is a manual
process that could potentially take a lot of time if you are thorough. In secure environments you
obviously want to be totally satisfied that a user leaving an organization does not have permissions to
something in SharePoint that they should not have permissions too. DeliverPoint will allow you to delete
a users permission at any scope, and will then ensure that their isn’t a permission assigned to them even
down to list item level. Certainly useful if there is any doubt that you may have missed something such
as a hidden list.
Dead Account Removal
Sometimes we don’t communicate that well in a company! What if the Active Directory Administrator or
even an Organization Unit Administrator has removed an account from the Active Directory, and forgot to
tell the SharePoint Admin? Well, you end up with a dead account in SharePoint. An Account you cannot do
anything with. DeliverPoint will report on such accounts and provide you with a removal tool.
Definitely useful for companies with a high turnover of staff!
